Making the Most of Your Home

What makes a house a home is the personalized details and the memories made with friends and family. Birthdays, anniversaries, the simple Friday nights watching a movie in the living room, and even this upcoming holiday season are all unforgettable moments spent in the comfort of our dwellings. To accommodate the extra company, it is essential to keep space and functionality as top priorities when it comes to the flow and layout of your interiors. We’re guiding you on three major ways to make the most of the space in your home and host your guests comfortably and confidently.

1.     Discreet Furniture

When working with room layouts, especially with limited space, furniture can be your biggest hindrance or serve as a functional design piece. If bulky pieces in the layout take up larger footprints of space, you can balance those out with streamlined furniture selections. Try selecting multidimensional furniture that can be multi-purposed. For example, the island in your kitchen can serve as a serving station or storage location designated for desserts until it is time to dig in. Barstools are another great solution, especially those that are simplistic and lightweight. They offer maneuverable seating that can also be quickly swept under the kitchen island, taking up minimal space and providing storage to any overflow that may come from the island area.

2.     Utilize Corner Space

Making full use of your square footage will create a greater impact on the overall design. Empty corner spaces can make your room look like something is missing, so it is best to use these underutilized areas. Placing a two-seater sofa or an armchair in these cozy nooks can offer seating while taking up that available space. These furniture pieces can also function as accent furniture to bring flavor to the rest of the room.

Center tables can provide great focal points and set the scene for your gathering as your visitors enter your home. They are also seamless pieces to incorporate in tight spaces. You can easily swap out the center piece décor on this table for refreshments or hors d’oeuvres for a cocktail gathering to make full use of this stylish furnishing piece!

3.     Bring Natural Light In

While it’s great to use the available square footage within your space, certain layouts can seem to get a little crowded. If you feel this happening in your home, bring back the spacious feeling with bright open windows that welcome in natural light. This lighting will bounce off the pigments in the room to bring out warmth and vibrancy while creating the illusion of a spacious interior. Therefore, it’s essential for selecting the right window treatments to capture the most lighting. Open window treatments and high drapes are the way to go for this technique.

We hope these tips inspire you to get creative with the room layouts in your home! Maybe all it takes is some simple furniture rearranging or the addition of a statement piece to bring the wow factor you’ve been missing.
