Trend Watch for 2022

The New Year is only a couple of weeks away and we have had quite the year! With a full year of adjusting back to our “new” normal, people have redirected their focus on their interior design needs. The masses have collectively realized how important it is to create a personalized environment and as the world changes, so do the current trends. When it comes to what to anticipate in the design world, we’ve been keeping a close eye on things! Here are 3 major trends to be on the lookout for in 2022!

1.     Sustainability, Natural Elements, and Biophilic Design

Eco-friendliness and sustainability have been trending categories in recent years and they are not showing any signs of slowing down. Consumers are attracted to knowing exactly what materials are used and how they are sourced whether it’s from their kitchen countertops down to the fabric of their furnishings. Consciously made items have become a priority when making design selections. More natural tones and elements are being incorporated into interiors as well. This earthy direction is reflected in everything from color to pattern selections.

Major paint companies, like Sherwin Williams, named Evergreen Fog green as the top color pick for 2022. The color green is associated with growth, harmony, and energy. It looks like many are finding their way back to their roots and bringing the outdoor inspiration to their interiors.  Because of this, biophilic design is also on the rise and is one of the top Pinterest searches. Biophilic design is defined as design that either directly or indirectly incorporates a natural environment. Think of plenty of plants and greenery in an interior when it comes to this style and expect to see even more of this in 2022.

2.     Convertible Furnishings

Related to sustainability, convertible furniture is becoming a huge favorite in furnishing options. They offer great versatility and can be configurated to create a whole new piece that can greatly impact your home. Unique out-of-the-ordinary shapes and creative uses of furniture are also captivating and can help tell your story. Popular products are sofa beds, desks, and dressers that can be tucked away, and seating that can be folded.

Having the option to quickly flip around and use a piece of furniture in a different way or put it away from sight is a major game-changer. Any way that you can free up space is a plus and creating a spacious feel is one of the easiest ways to instantly give your space a luxurious boost. Convertible furniture is also a great conversation piece when having guests over. Instantly pull out the extra seating like a magic trick and watch your guests be amazed!

3.     Curvy Design

Hard lines are one of the seven design elements and we’re definitely going to be seeing more of a change here in the next year. Curves are an emerging element in interior design, most notably in furniture. Shapely furniture is taking the lead as we are starting to see some fun funky sofas in living room designs. Other subtly curves and shapes can be noticed within lighting fixtures and even table designs. This style definitely gives a new edge to contemporary and modern interiors, and we can’t see more of this evolving in 2022.
